Repression: State sponsored control tactics

Nation states formed in the model of modernism/coloniality have a large toolbox of control mechanisms to prevent fundamental political transformation. Depending on circumstances, they may meet demands for policy change with get tough law and order initiatives, police violence, calls for tolerance, equity, and inclusion in an often-postponed future, or even death squads when necessary. Environmental activists, civil rights leaders, and journalists all over the world have been murdered by secret police. Activists cannot be naïve in approaches to transformation, building in collective care for communities in struggle.
